Mount Teide Viewpoints: 6 Best Spots for Photos & Sunset Views

Here are the spots you should add to your route if you want not just to see Teide, but to feel its grandeur.

1. Mirador Azulejos — Instagram classic

This is the place where everyone stops right on the road. Teide is directly in front of you — as if in the palm of your hand. It looks especially epic in the second half of the day when the sun lights up the crater.

2. Puerto de Izaña — mountain calm

This viewpoint is less crowded than others, but the panorama of Teide is stunning. You often see clouds beneath your feet — as if you’re flying over the island.

3. Natural window on Teide

This place feels like it was made by nature for a perfect shot: in a massive volcanic rock there’s an opening through which Teide is perfectly framed. If you stand just right, the volcano appears right in the center of this “natural frame.”

To get here, you’ll need to walk about 15–20 minutes from the parking lot. The trail goes through lava fields and rocky terrain, so wear sturdy shoes. But trust us — the short hike is totally worth it.

4. Mirador de Ayosa — volcano in your palm

Another great spot along TF-24. There’s a large rock that offers a spectacular view of the volcano. The atmosphere is wild, the landscape harsh — perfect for those who want to feel like they’re on Mars.

5. Mirador de Chipeque — sunrise above the clouds

One of the most popular spots to catch the sunrise. Often there’s a sea of clouds below, and Teide rises above them like an island in the sky.

Tip: Arrive early — this spot gets crowded for sunrise.

6. Roques de García

This one’s right at the base of Teide, in the heart of the national park. Massive rock formations, craters, and the volcano itself — it feels like you’re on another planet. There are hiking trails around the rocks.

How to get to the top of Teide

Mount Teide is the highest point in Spain (3,715 m). You can climb to the top, but there are some things to keep in mind:

IMPORTANT: To reach the summit from the cable car station (the final 200 m), you need a free permit from the park. You must book it online in advance — spots are snapped up weeks ahead!

When is the best time to go?

• ☀️ Best weather — from May to October
• ❄️ In winter, there may be snow at the summit and the cable car might close due to wind
