The Most Atmospheric Beaches of Albania: Wild Nature and Turquoise Water
Albania surprised me. There's no mass tourism here, but there are wild coves, stunning nature, and beaches you can only reach on foot or by boat. Those are the places you remember the longest.
- The best time for Albania's beaches is June to September; June and September are quieter than the hot, busy July and August.
- Aquarium Beach was our favorite: the water is so clear you can see every stone on the bottom. Reach it via the Bregdet Jale road.
- Gjipe Beach sits in a canyon: park for 300 lekรซ, then hike 20-30 minutes down, or take the jeep for โฌ40 one way.
- Nemo Beach near Porto Palermo is a small local cove with limited parking, so arrive early - and try the petulla at its restaurant.
- We skipped Ksamil: it is very popular, but crowded and expensive in summer.

Our 4 favorite wild beaches in Albania
1. Plazhi i Bunec Beach ๐๏ธ
One of the most atmospheric spots on the Albanian coast - here a mountain river flows directly into the sea. Pure wilderness and natural beauty at its finest.
2. Nemo Beach ๐
A small, cozy cove near Porto Palermo with a tiny restaurant. This is mainly a local beach - people from nearby villages come here. Parking is limited, so arrive as early as possible to get a spot.
Make sure to try Petulla at the local restaurant - traditional Albanian doughnuts. Ask them to serve it with berry sauce for an even better experience.
3. Aquarium Beach ๐
A small beach in a tiny cove - my personal favorite among all the beaches in Albania. The water here is so transparent it truly resembles an aquarium: every stone on the bottom is visible. The road to the beach is rough and requires patience. Itโs best to go via Bregdet Jale road.
4. Gjipe Beach ๐๏ธ
An incredibly beautiful beach hidden inside a canyon. To get there, you need to hike - about 20-30 minutes one way, and a bit longer on the way back as you climb uphill. Thereโs a small jeep that takes people down, but it costs 40 euros one way. You can also walk through the canyon - the views are breathtaking.
The road to the parking lot is single-lane, so be patient: youโll often need to yield to oncoming cars and pull over to the side.
