🌊 Season: The best time to visit Albania’s beaches is from June to September. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, so if you prefer a quieter experience — go in June or September.
🚗 Getting there: Most wild beaches are best visited by rental car or taxi, and some can only be reached on foot or by boat.
👜 What to bring: Water, snacks, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for trekking if you plan to hike to the beaches.
1. Plazhi i Bunec Beach 🏞️
One of the most atmospheric spots on the Albanian coast — here a mountain river flows directly into the sea. Pure wilderness and natural beauty at its finest.
2. Nemo Beach 🐟
A small, cozy cove near Porto Palermo with a tiny restaurant. This is mainly a local beach — people from nearby villages come here. Parking is limited, so arrive as early as possible to get a spot.
3. Aquarium Beach 💙
A small beach in a tiny cove — my personal favorite among all the beaches in Albania. The water here is so transparent it truly resembles an aquarium: every stone on the bottom is visible. The road to the beach is rough and requires patience. It’s best to go via Bregdet Jale road.
4. Gjipe Beach 🏔️
An incredibly beautiful beach hidden inside a canyon. To get there, you need to hike — about 20–30 minutes one way, and a bit longer on the way back as you climb uphill. There’s a small jeep that takes people down, but it costs 40 euros one way. You can also walk through the canyon — the views are breathtaking.
The road to the parking lot is single-lane, so be patient: you’ll often need to yield to oncoming cars and pull over to the side.
Other beaches worth visiting
If you want to explore more — here are a few more great options:
- Plazhi i Palasës
- Drymades Beach
- Dhërmiu Beach
- Plazhi i Himarës
- Filikuri Beach
- Borsh Beach
- Lukova Beach
- Ksamil Beach — a very popular spot, but in summer it gets crowded and prices are high, so we didn’t even go there.
Albania is one of those places where nature hasn’t yet given way to tourist infrastructure. Hurry up while it’s still this way!
Beyond the coast, Albania hides medieval towns and natural springs — see our guide to Berat, Gjirokastër and the Blue Eye.
