Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of continental Europe. This is where the land ends and the Atlantic Ocean begins. Cliffs dropping sharply to the sea, a lighthouse, and an endless horizon โ a place of special energy that deserves its own day in your Lisbon itinerary.
How to Get to Cabo da Roca
๐ Taxi โ Fastest and Most Convenient
The easiest option is to order a taxi via the Bolt/Uber app from central Lisbon. Our ride cost around โฌ30 one way and took about 40 minutes. If youโre travelling as a group of 4 โ itโs great value: fast, comfortable, and no need to figure out bus schedules.
๐ Rental Car
If you already have a rental car, you can of course drive yourself. But if Cabo da Roca is your only stop, renting a car just for this one spot probably isnโt worth it.
๐ Train + Bus
You can also get there by public transport: take a train from Rossio Train Station in Lisbon to Sintra, then switch to bus 1624 or 1253. Keep in mind โ the full journey takes around 2 hours, compared to 40 minutes by taxi.

What to See at Cabo da Roca
Cape Roca Lighthouse and Viewpoint
The first thing to do is, of course, get a photo in front of the lighthouse. Cape Roca Lighthouse stands right at the cliffโs edge, and the view is so spectacular your phone practically jumps out of your pocket. Walk around, step up to the railing โ and youโll feel just how powerful the Atlantic is here.
Praia da Aroeira Beach โ Viewpoint and Descent
From here you get an incredible aerial view, and if you have time and energy โ you can head down to the beach itself. A perfect spot for a picnic with an ocean backdrop.
Praia da Ursa Beach โ The Wildest and Most Beautiful
Another spot worth visiting is Praia da Ursa. Itโs considered one of the most beautiful wild beaches in Portugal: enormous rock formations, almost no crowds, and a dramatic Atlantic landscape.
Trail to the Viewpoints: What You Need to Know
The walk to the viewpoints takes no more than 30 minutes each way, and the difficulty level is easy. No special gear required, but wear comfortable shoes โ the paths can be uneven and rocky in places.
Cabo da Roca is one of those places where photos just donโt do it justice. You simply have to be there: standing at the edge of Europe, listening to the ocean, and watching the horizon stretch as far as the eye can see.
