The Most Atmospheric Beaches of Albania: Wild Nature and Turquoise Water

Albania surprised me. There's no mass tourism here, but there are wild coves, stunning nature, and beaches you can only reach on foot or by boat. Those are the places you remember the longest.

๐ŸŒŠ Season: The best time to visit Albaniaโ€™s beaches is from June to September. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, so if you prefer a quieter experience โ€” go in June or September.

๐Ÿš— Getting there: Most wild beaches are best visited by rental car or taxi, and some can only be reached on foot or by boat.

๐Ÿ‘œ What to bring: Water, snacks, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for trekking if you plan to hike to the beaches.

1. Plazhi i Bunec Beach ๐Ÿž๏ธ

One of the most atmospheric spots on the Albanian coast โ€” here a mountain river flows directly into the sea. Pure wilderness and natural beauty at its finest.

2. Nemo Beach ๐ŸŸ

A small, cozy cove near Porto Palermo with a tiny restaurant. This is mainly a local beach โ€” people from nearby villages come here. Parking is limited, so arrive as early as possible to get a spot.

iconMake sure to try Petulla at the local restaurant โ€” traditional Albanian doughnuts. Ask them to serve it with berry sauce for an even better experience.

3. Aquarium Beach ๐Ÿ’™

A small beach in a tiny cove โ€” my personal favorite among all the beaches in Albania. The water here is so transparent it truly resembles an aquarium: every stone on the bottom is visible. The road to the beach is rough and requires patience. Itโ€™s best to go via Bregdet Jale road.

4. Gjipe Beach ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

An incredibly beautiful beach hidden inside a canyon. To get there, you need to hike โ€” about 20โ€“30 minutes one way, and a bit longer on the way back as you climb uphill. Thereโ€™s a small jeep that takes people down, but it costs 40 euros one way. You can also walk through the canyon โ€” the views are breathtaking.

The road to the parking lot is single-lane, so be patient: youโ€™ll often need to yield to oncoming cars and pull over to the side.

Other beaches worth visiting

If you want to explore more โ€” here are a few more great options:

  • Plazhi i Palasรซs
  • Drymades Beach
  • Dhรซrmiu Beach
  • Plazhi i Himarรซs
  • Filikuri Beach
  • Borsh Beach
  • Lukova Beach
  • Ksamil Beach โ€” a very popular spot, but in summer it gets crowded and prices are high, so we didnโ€™t even go there.

Albania is one of those places where nature hasnโ€™t yet given way to tourist infrastructure. Hurry up while itโ€™s still this way!
